Frank was very brave, imo he has a lot of great characteristics
met him a fair few times and Nigel Benn too, though never Eubank, Bruno has the ability to light up a place when he walks in, big man big aura
Tyson is an entirely other kettle of fishies
this was quite big in the UK wasn't it? It was the first time Britain had a heavyweight with any sort of (punchers) chance since Henry Cooper, I wasn't the only one who thought he could do it
I never met Big Frank (Wandsworth boy, lest we forget) but I saw him once on the other side of the street near the Lonsdale shop round the corner from Carnaby Street. It would be about 1988, so Frank was a big star.
A kid ran up to him with a pen and a scrap of paper - Frank bent down to hear what he was saying and shook his head. But he fished in his immaculate suit's inside pocket and pulled out what I think was a signed photo to give to the kid, who went running back to his parents beaming.
Nobody saw it but me, the kid and his parents, but nearly 20 years later, that little act of humble kindness resonates. The less I hear of Frank, the happier I am, as we'll only hear bad news now.
I remember the Lonsdale shop on Carnaby St. too, bought some gloves there once
First met Frank when I was delivering some wine to a snazzy hotel and he had come in 5 hours early for a 'guest of honour' gig just to say hello to the staff
he was walking around the kitchens and back corridors (with his wife and baby in tow if memory serves) and he was stopping and chatting with anyone who wanted, taking great care to get on their level (altitude and attitude)
can't remember what I asked him then now but his larger than life features and genuine 'presence' were remarkable
notice Harry Carpenter on the clip, I tried to get a Harry and Frank interview but couldn't find any

...I almost believed Bruno could do it, bit silly in hindsight really
Frank, like Eubank, was limited but very, very brave.
Both men have their problems, but I have the greatest respect for them.

A good one Frank.

Carpenter - "Get in there Frank!" He had Tyson and Frank summed up didn't he?
