a glorious moment in footballing TV. Is Keegan's passion to be admired or mocked mercilessly? Does anyone remember the details behind this story?

I posted the transcript of this somewhere a while back. It is just superb - almost poetic in its rhythm, its repetition, its passion. Here it is - you decide whether the spoken or the written is better.
"When you do that with footballers like he said about Leeds... I've kept really quiet, but I'll tell you something: he went down in my estimation when he said that - we have not resorted to that. But I'll tell ya - you can tell him now if you're watching it - we're still fighting for this title, and he's got to go to Middlesbrough and get something, and... and I tell you honestly, I will love it if we beat them - LOVE IT!"
From memory, SAF had said that Leeds wouldn't be trying hard in a match because that result would favour Newcastle for the Title. I can't recall the exact circumstances, but SAF's insinuation was unplesant (and today would create a storm of "Football's secret deals" headlines) but then was largely laughed off by everyone except little Keggy.
